In addition to having the largest selection of Proteas in the world other than South Africa, the arboretum has hundreds of other Mediterranean plant species including those found in the beautiful terraced succulent garden. The garden is also an excellent and accessible place for bird watching - March is hummingbird month. Admission is $10 adults and $8 for seniors (not per car). Check out payment options.
Please follow the website garden etiquette suggestions as well as our normal rules for painting in a garden: instead of discarding your painting water on the ground, please take it home with you.
Directions: From Highway 17 (north) or Highway 1 (south): Follow signs for Half Moon Bay / Highway 1 North as you enter Santa Cruz. Highway 1 becomes Mission Street, stay on it for about 1 mile. Turn right at Bay Street (traffic light) and continue to the UCSC Main Entrance (Bay & High Street). Drive past the UCSC Main Entrance heading north on High Street which turns into Empire Grade (see map). The entrance to the Garden is on the east side of High Street, about 1/2 mile up High Street past the main entrance on the west side of campus. (right-hand side if you’re going uphill.) Carpools suggested due to distance from Bay Area.
Attendance: Attendance is free and is open to all SCVWS members and non-members.
